Arlene Jackson, founder of AphroHippie, began beading as a mechanism to cope with her mom's diagnosis of dementia. The feel of the beads in her hands created a sense of calm, peace and focus; the creation of a useful product, was genuinely a happy surprise!

While preserving her mom's dignity and ensuring she received proper medical treatment was paramount, establishing a life-work balance was daunting. If you ask Arlene, she will tell you that beading saved her life.

A portion of every strand of waist beads and barefoot sandal sold will be donated to a local memory care center.
